Your words have power. Other people’s words have power. The power to shape your perception, how you see yourself, the power to frame the narrative.

If you look at the news, you’ll understand what I’m saying.

The cafeteria at my job has three TVs hung right next to one another on the wall. The one on the right plays Fox News, and the one on the left plays CNN. Yes, someone has a sense of humor and a flair for irony. (The one in the middle stays off – a commentary on moderate/centrist views?)

Anyways, both TVs can talk about the same stories yet frame the story in different ways. They can choose to see what they want to see and focus on the aspects that fit that narrative. And if you only watch one of those channels, you get that perspective.

Those words have the power to shape how you see that topic. Watch that enough, and it’ll have the power to shape how you see the world.

Much like this example, your words have power to shape how you see things, too.

While it’s worth paying attention to the messages you take in, you also have to be mindful of the messages you already believe.

Pay attention to the words you use, for the way you speak reflects the way you see the world.

Are you ever hard on yourself?

Do you blame yourself for things? Do you make excuses?

Do you put yourself down, or lie? Do you crap talk others and gossip?

Is life hard or negative? Do others put you down? Do you wish things were easier?

These things all shape your view of the world. They impact what you think is possible, and what you think is doable.

I share this with you because, on this path to realizing your full potential and giving your gifts, you might come across setbacks, heartbreak, failure. How you respond to these situations, and how you view yourself in relation to them, will make a world of difference.

How much farther could you get if you saw life positively? Who would you be if you looked at your challenges as benefits meant to help you grow?

The words you use reflect your views. Change your language. Change your views. Change your life.
